Clemons Leads Wesleyan Soccer to Fourth Win in Five Games | News
Knoxville, TN - Freshman Kelsey Clemons scored two goals to pace the Wesleyan College soccer team in a 3-0 win over Johnson University in the team's first road match of the season.
The freshman from Monticello, GA, scored her first goal of the contest in the 5th minute off an assist from junior forward Anna Hernandez. Hernandez followed up her assist with a goal of her own in the 21st minute that was assisted by freshman Taylor Poole. Clemons netted her second goal of the match in the 61st minute, moving her season total of goals scored to four.
Wesleyan (4-1) held Johnson to just five shots in the match, while firing off 45 of their own.
"I'm pleased to get another win, especially with it being our first match played on the road," remarked Wesleyan head coach Ciaran Traquair. "We faced a bit of adversity in that we didn't have all of our players with us and we had people playing out of position in places that they haven't played all year. But with that being said, I think Shannon Pennington stepped up in a big way for us. I moved her from midfield to left back and she played phenomenal. And Kesley obviously had an outstanding game for us in the middle as well."
Wesleyan has a five day break before returning home to host Judson College at the Mathews Athletic Center on Friday night. Kick-off is set for 6:00pm.
