Bibb Co. 'Swears in' Macon Officer and Bomb Dog | News
Officer Timothy Rivers of the Macon Police Department and his bomb-sniffing pooch, Arco, were sworn in by Sheriff David Davis of the Bibb County Sheriff's Office in a ceremony Monday.
Bibb County Sheriff's deputies along with the family of Officer Timothy Rivers were in attendance.
Rivers received Arco in August and he says they've been inseparable partners ever since.
"We work well together because I have to present everything to Arco and once I present it Arco's job is to find it and once Arco find it our job is to get EOD," said Rivers.
Rivers said the ceremony has been something that they have been looking forward to since they started training together to seek out explosives. They went to Savannah where they completed the Explosive K9 Hander class.
"Arco was able to seek out C-4 which is explosive of course and Arco found it in the fire panel at Savannah Airport but it was part of our training exercises," said Rivers. "There was one or two times when I looked back at Arco and said "What a dog!' "
The class was funded by a grant through Georgia Emergency Management Agency. Officer Rivers and Arco can can be called anywhere to in the state of Georgia to sniff out explosive devices.
