Retired Air Force Colonel and Author Motivates Williams Elementary Students | News
On Tuesday September 24, Williams Elementary Student Council members and all fifth-graders participated in a Motivational and Leadership Seminar conducted by retired U.S. Air Force Col. William Saunders. Col Saunders is a motivational speaker, consultant, and author of the nationally published book: "Are You Stuck in Traffic? A Step-by-Step Guide to a Better Life!"
Col. Saunders surprised the students by wearing some of his military regalia from the Air Force. His message to the students was "Believe in You!" He told students that if they believe and visualize their goals, they can achieve them. He told the students to stand tall and stand out, and to be different from others. He reiterated the importance of listening to parents and teachers, focusing on academics, and respecting self and school.
For those seeking leadership opportunities in Student Council, he discussed the importance of preparing to lead and made a connection to the county’s leadership and mayoral run-off election.
Student Council candidates were given opportunities to communicate why they are effective leaders. Afterward, students were told to cast a ballot for who they felt would be the best candidate to represent them on the school's Student Council.
"The seminar was an excellent way to energize our students. They were attentive, and involved. Many students were able to share their personal goals as we prepare for our upcoming Student Council Elections," said Principal Dr. Shandrina Griffin-Stewart.
