The Medical Center of Central Georgia hosted an "enrollment blitz" to assist people in signing up for healthcare plans under the Affordable Care Act.

The event from 11 am to 7 pm Wednesday was held at Central Georgia Home Care Center on Eisenhower Parkway.

They had several counselors and a hea

lthcare navigator on hand to help people sign up for plans on the healthcare.gov website, which has had problems since its debut on October 1st.

At the event, some people reported long waits, up to 2 hours, and some left with a paper application to fill out at home instead.

According to hospital spokeswoman Megan Allen, of 125 people who came to the event, 36 left with paper applications, and 13 people actually completed the entire online process.

The deadline to apply for plans taking effect by January 1st is December 23rd.

The final deadline will be March before facing a penalty.
