Old Bibb Comission still in business | News
The new Bibb County commission is already at work, but the old commission isn't done yet.
They met again Friday and still have some unfinished business that will run into next week. The board still couldn't agree on whether to award a contract for build the county's new animal shelter.
They plan to meet again next Friday, Dec. 27, .to try to resolve that.
They did take one vote to honor a local war hero. The commission asked the state General Assembly to rename Highway 247 in south Bibb as the General Robert Scott Highway.
Scott of course was a Macon native and World War II flyer, known for his book, "God is My Co-Pilot."
The General Scott Highway would run between Houston Avenue and Houston County line. And since the road is a state highway, the name change needs approval from the Assembly.
General Scott died in 2006.
Finally, they named a longtime Macon city council member to Macon Bibb's Urban Development Authority.
He is Rick Hutto, the lawyer and author who served 10 years on council.
The current five-member commission is officially out of business on Dec. 31.
