Residents endure foul conditions at Macon complex | News
When Latesha King of west Macon walks into her apartment she says she feels disgusted.
And there's a good reason for that.
Raw sewage from her toilet and her neighbors toilet comes into the apartment she shares with her one-year-old daughter.
"It's real bad. I mean I'm going to have to get some Clorox and just do what I got to do to make it better because this right here's just disgusting," she said. standing in her bathroom looking into the tub that was covered in feces.
She lives in the Macon Garden Apartments a HUD, Section 8 subsidized housing unit for low-income tenants.
Her next do neighbor, Wanda Watts is having similar problems. Her bathroom and closet have been flooded since Monday.
"It's coming all from behind there," she said Friday standing on soaking carpet in her closet. "It's wet. All that's wet. ... Then eventually it's going to come up under here," she said pointing to her clothes.
The women have been reporting the living conditions to management for about a week.
After being told the problems would be fixed, management has done nothing, the women say.
13WMAZ stopped by the front desk at Macon Garden, but they refused to comment.
"I mean I do all I can do and I'm tired of it now. I mean I've been here five years," King said adding that she has to take her daughter to across town to wash her. She said she also has to use her neighbor's toilet.
"I mean they need to do better. ... I'm a low income mother and I feel like we deserve better than this.
But she's unsure if things will get better anytime soon.
