McDaniel's lawyers ask judge for change of venue | News
Lawyers for accused killer Stephen McDaniel want to move his murder trial outside Bibb County
Mcdaniel is accused of killing his Mercer law classmate and neighbor, Lauren Giddings in 2011.
Defense attorney Frank Hogue says his team decided to ask for the change of venue after the latest motions hearing in the case. Last week, prosecutors read examples of McDaniel's online searches and sites he had visited, including molesting a sleeping girl, dismembering a body and cannibalism.
Hogue says many people in Bibb county have seen coverage of the hearings, so selecting an impartial jury would be difficult.
When defense lawyers ask for a change of venue, a judge decides whether to move the trial to another city or select jurors from an out-of-town pool.
Superior Court Judge Howard Simms will have to schedule a hearing to rule on the defense motion.
Last week, he decided to delay the trial, scheduled for Feb. 3. No date has been set.
