Macon included in federal "strong cities" program | News
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has included Macon in an expansion of its Strong Communities Initiative, according to a HUD news release.
The department is hosting a media call at 10:30 a.m. Thursday to discuss the addition of cities to the program, which includes St. Louis, Mo,; Gary, Ind.; Flint, Mich; Brownsville, Texas; Rockford, Ill.; and Rocky Mount, N.C.
The primary goal of the program is to spur economic activity in these cities by helping them more "effectively invest existing resources, provide advice and expertise in support of local priorities, better align federal programs and investments, and facilitate new partnerships and peer learning opportunities," the news release stated.
Thursday call will be lead by HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan and White House Domestic Policy Council Director Cecilia Muñoz.
