Bicyclist hit by Macon bus dies

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said Tony Bateman, 50, died at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.

He was hit just before 7 a.m. Tuesday on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near Concord Street.

Bateman, of Macon, was traveling eastbound on a bicycle towards Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard when the bus, driven by Stanley Jones, struck him, according to a sheriff's office news release.

Bateman entered into the southbound lanes of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard crossing into the path of the bus, the news release states.

There were two passengers on the bus and no other injuries were reported, according to the news release.

No charges have been filed against the bus driver.
