Bibb County salt trucks roll out | News
Five Bibb County public works salt trucks are hitting the roads tonight, dropping about 20 tons of salt across bridges and areas like Hartley Bridge Road, Zebulon Road and Mercer University Drive.
That's according to chief deputy superintendent Marvin Land.
He says his department is focusing on bridges since they are the first to ice over.
Land says he has a crew of about 30 people working.
About half are monitoring road conditions. The others are salting the roads.
Land says he doesn't expect this first trip to be the last over the next two days.
"We have crews out monitoring the area for icing. Be careful out on the streets. We're out there monitoring even after we salt the bridges and we'll hit them as much as we need to," Land said.
Land says this is the first time this winter the public works department has had to send out salt trucks; he says the last time they sent out salt trucks was last winter.
