Tens of thousands lose power in Midstate

Tens of thousands of people woke up to find their homes without power in Central Georgia Wednesday morning.

Georgia Power representatives say they've seen about 73,000 customers lose power across Central Georgia so far.

Add to that around 13,000 people Tri-County EMC says they still have to bring service back to.

Early Wednesday, about 10,000 people were without power in Bibb County, 10,000 people in Baldwin County and more than 15,000 in Jones County, according to a Georgia Power representative.

More than 11,000 of Washington EMC's 15,000 customers lost power due to blown transformers and downed trees. Washington EMC services Washington, Johnson, Hancock, Baldwin, Warren, Laurens, Emanuel, Glascock, Jefferson, and Wilkinson counties.

About 16,000 Tri-County EMC customers lost power. Almost 6,000 of those are in Jones County, almost 5,000 in Baldwin and nearly 4,000 in Putnam County.

Scattered outages exist in Jasper, Morgan, Wilkinson and Twiggs counties as well. These outages happened as a result of "a combination of icing, downed trees and wind," according to a release.
