Police investigate Lizella meth lab | News
Police are now trying to determine who's behind a meth lab discovered on Dixon Road in Lizella, off of Eisenhower Parkway.
Officers, the Bibb County Fire Department and Hazmat team spent much of the evening decontaminating the home.
The Bibb County Sheriff's office got a call around 5 p.m. from construction workers remodeling the rental property. Officer Clay Williams said one of the workers accidentally discovered the dormant lab when he went into the back yard.
The next step is contacting the owners, but Williams says finding out who's ultimately responsible for the meth lab may be a longer process.
"We'll just make sure they're aware of the situation and see if we can eventually find out who was living in the residence, but due to the extremely rural area of the property, it could have been anyone," he said.
Williams says it's also difficult to determine exactly how long ago the lab was active because of the recent weather washing away much of the evidence.
He says he expects the section of Dixon Road that's blocked for cleanup to remain closed for much of Monday night.
