Teen dating violence forum | News
February is teen dating violence month.
"Among adult victims of rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner" 22 percent of women and 15 percent of men first experienced violence with a partner between ages 11 and 17, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
On Thursday Bibb County Schools and the Central Georgia Counsil on Family Violence are hosting a teen dating violence forum for all girls ages 13 to 18 at the Hutchings Career Center.
"They will know what teen dating violence looks like," said Beverly Stewart, counselor coordinator for Bibb Schools."Often we associate it with just the physical, but teen dating violence can take place as far as emotional and also with internet. With so much that's going on with social media it can also play a role in that."
The Hutchings Career Center is located at 2011 Riverside Drive in Macon.
The event is free and parents are welcome to attend. Dinner will be served.
