FPD's Austin Childers dies at 23
News

Austin Childers, whose fight against a rare disease captured hearts in the First Presbyterian School community and around Central Georgia, died Wednesday night.

That's according to 13WMAZ's Kenny Burgamy, a friend of the Childers family.

Austin Childers graduated from First Presbyterian in 2009.

And last year, the school named their football field house in his honor.

Austin died just before 11 p.m. Wednesday at a hospice in North Macon.

He battled a rare mitochondrial disease for years.

Burgamy tells us he died from complications from that disease.

Childers was 23.

On Friday, March 7, from 4-7 p.m., the family will greet friends at

Austin Childers Field at First Presbyterian Day School, according to FPD's website.

A memorial service will be held at Ingleside Baptist Church Sunday, March 9 at 2 p.m. That'll be held in the Worship Center.
