Macon restaurant rallies to support coworker
News

The Mellow Mushroom in Macon is pitching in to help one of its line cooks. Adam Martin's three-year-old daughter died in a house fire last Friday on Mimosa Drive.

The fire also destroyed Martin's home, and coworkers say they didn't hesitate to help out because Martin is like family.

Kitchen Manager Anton Robinson says its painful to think of his best friend Adam Martin living without his three-year-old daughter A'von, who died in a house fire Friday.

"It was one of the hardest phone calls I ever had in my life ever and just seeing my friend and just seeing my friend that hurt is horrible...horrible," Robinson said.

It's why he and the rest of Adam's coworkers at the Mellow Mushroom in Macon decided to help the line cook they call Big Baby by cooking up some extra cash for his family.

"I think everybody's immediate reaction was to just help and to do whatever we could do for Adam," Jeffers said.

A coworker they say would do the same for any of them.

"Adam is like has the biggest heart of anyone I know. He's a big guy and he has a really big heart," Robinson said.

Tuesday, March 11, Mellow Mushroom is donating 20 percent of their proceeds to the Martin family and encouraging people to make donations now.

They're also holding a donation drive for household items.

"Everyone that I have met remembers him because they love him so much. It's a real tragedy and I'm glad everybody came together for this,"

"It's like everything we're doing here at the Mellow is because we all consider each other family," Robinson said.

It's a family that serves up pizza and compassion.

Martin's son was also in the home that day. He was rescued by a neighbor.

Donations can be made not only at the Mellow Mushroom Macon but also at any local Certus Bank in the area, under the name "The Martin Family."

The fundraiser will host a donation center, where clothes, shoes, toys, gift cards, money, furniture and other household items can be dropped off. To assist with donation ideas, here is information about each family member:

  • Adam, Jr. (male) – 3 years old. Size 3 or 4 T / Shoes 9 Toddler
  • Alyx (male) –2 years old. Size 24 months / Shoes 4-5
