Chicken truck overturns in Macon


Perdue Animal Welfare officers were at the site where a semi-truck carrying chickens overturned Friday morning

The accident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. at the Spring Street-I-16 on ramp. The truck was headed to Perdue Farms in Perry.ID=6166427

According to a news release from Perdue Farms, they sent company officials to the accident scene to "assure appropriate care of the birds involved in this morning's accident. ... Our people are specially trained to evaluate and take appropriate actions to assure the health and well-being of the chickens," the release states.

Injured birds will be humanely euthanized and the rest will be loaded onto another truck and transported to the chicken plant, according to the news release.

Two men were in the truck when it overturned. The passenger was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
