One injured in Macon explosion

One of the units at the Hidden Lake Apartments in Macon, off of Mercer University Dr., was evacuated Saturday afternoon after a reported explosion

Lieutenant Randy Gonzalez of the Bibb Sheriff's Office said a resident's water heater exploded while he was trying to turn it off.

The extent of the man's injuries are unknown, and the Bibb fire department said he had been transported to the Burn Center in Augusta.

Battalion Chief Stephen Stafford said the explosion put the building off its foundation, resulting in the evacuation.

Fire chief Marvin Riggins told 13WMAZ that the manager at the complex said that affected residents will be moved to other apartments on the property.
