Bibb teacher searches for former students

A Bibb County teacher is looking for her students. She hasn't seen some of them in 20 years and wants to round up as many as she can to reopen a piece of history.

In 1994 Michelle Gowan was known to her students as Miss James. She and her 65 gifted students buried a time capsule that included things like baseball cards, books and baby shoes. "We described technology, scientific advancements, medicine," she said.

Michelle Gowan has located most of her students who came from Heard and Porter elementary schools. "Several of them are regrettably pretty far away," she said "California, or out of the country or serving in the military."

Out of the 25 she's still searching for, she found 10 of them on Facebook, but hasn't made the connection. "But if they're not active on Facebook then they don't see the message from their teacher in their inbox waiting for them," she added.

Also in the capsule are letters written to the students from parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Some of whom have since passed away.

"And I think theres a bag in there with a letter from my mother who is no longer with us, and so i'm pretty excited to get in there and get that letter too," said Gowan.

If you were in her 1994 class, or know somebody who was, you can look up the Heard-Porter Reach Elementary School Time Capsule Reunion Facebook page.

The capsule will be revealed on May 11th at 3 pm. That's Mothers day.
