Macon has a "Need for Speed"

Last April, Central Georgians spotted a silver Mustang, built for racing, speeding through Macon. Thursday night, it raced onto silver screens as the movie "Need for Speed' cruised into theaters.

13WMAZ's Elise Brown camped out at the AmStar 16 on Zebulon Road to catch audiences on their way in and out of the first showing. David Jones chose to celebrate his birthday by seeing the film. He said parts of it were shot near his business.

"My office is on Third Street. I own a medical x-ray equipment company at 755 Third Street so its in the neighborhood," he said.

Terrell Sandefur with the Macon Film Commission got to see parts of it shot. "It was kind of like going to the drag races or Nascar or something, a lot of fast cars, a lot of sexy cars," he said.

Armed with snack food, moviegoers sat down for a wild ride. Avis Toole and Larry Thomas loved seeing Macon in the adrenaline packed film. "When they were racing from downtown it was pretty cool, like just going back and forth through all the traffic and everything," said Thomas.

"It started going out over the river in Columbus and it went right into Macon, so Macon had the first race that was intense and they were all through downtown," said Sandefur.

Sandefur said his jaw dropped when the movie gave credit to the Macon Film Commission.

"Need for Speed" stars Aaron Paul and Michael Keaton. It is rated PG-13.
