Vandals break in to Rice Elementary | News
For the second time this year, one Bibb County elementary school was burglarized.
At Jessie Rice Elementary, two vandals are on video causing destruction inside the school.
Sheriffs deputies and campus police arrived at Jessie Rice Elementary in Bloomfield around 6:45 Wednesday morning. They discovered a window was smashed near the front office and the video camera in that area was turned up to the ceiling.
Vandals moved the refrigerator in the cafeteria, so they could break into the cafeteria office.
Principal Janice Sharpe calls the break-in a violation. "I'm really hurt. And first of all because it's all about our children here and they shouldn't have to go through someone vandalizing the place in which they are coming to learn," she said. "Education is very important to us and we want it to be to our community as well,"
Sharpe believes they were looking for money. However nothing was taken. Police dusted for fingerprints and found a glove in the hallway.
Deputies were first called to Rice around 11:30 Wednesday night. It turned out to be a perimeter burglar alarm. But they found no sign of a break-in, that's according to Lt. Sean DeFoe with the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.
Anyone with information about the break in is asked to call 478-779-2040.
