Man in custody after Vineville apartments standoff

A man is in custody after a standoff of about two hours at a Macon apartment complex.

The Bibb County SWAT team was called to a senior-citizen apartment complex at 2009 Vineville Avenue Tuesday morning.

Around 10:30 a.m., sheriff's spokesman Lt. Sean DeFoe said, "A person claimed he barricaded himself in his apartment, so we're going to check it out."

Albert Gray,74, recently had a medical procedure, DeFoe said. When paramedics visited him around 9 a.m. to check on him, his door was blocked and he would not come out .

DeFoe said sheriff's deputies negotiated with him for about two hours, and he left the apartment around 11:20 a.m.

The man was taken to a local hospital and will not be charged, DeFoe said.
