Gas-station murder trial set for July 7 | News
A July 7 trial date is set for Frank Reeves, accused of shooting a woman to death outside a Macon gas station.
That's according to prosecutor Mike Smith.
Bibb County Superior Court Judge Howard Simms set the date Wednesday morning after hearing motions in the case, Smith said.
He's accused of shooting Linda Hunnicutt Dec. 4 after her car and his motorized wheelchair bumped in the parking lot of the Murphy's Express Gas station on Gray Highway in East Macon.
He is charged with felony murder.
Reeves was 73 years old at the time of the shooting, and his family said his health is poor and deteriorating.
But after a bond hearing last year, Simms said the testimony and evidence in the case indicates that Reeves is unstable and unpredictable. He said all evidence in the case pointed to "an unprovoked and violent assault" on Hunnicutt.
Smith said Reeves' lawyer, Veronica Brinson, has filed other motions in the case. One asks to move the trial outside of Bibb County and another asks to keep Reeves' statements to police out of court.
We could not reach Brinson for comment.
Smith said a June 12 hearing has been set on the motions.
