Macon author's book gets presidential attention | News
President Obama read a Macon woman's book last month.
Author Kimberly Sandefur says Obama read her "Let's Get Healthy" book during a Democratic National Committee roundtable.
She says her mother passed the book to the president when the topic of obesity came up.
Her inspiration from the book came in large part to a family vacation taken four years ago at the beach.
"I just noticed, oh my gosh, there were so many obese children and people at this particular vacation spot. They were just eating junk food. This was the same time as Michelle Obama's get up and move campaign, and I thought, 'What a perfect time.' I want to do something just to give America a kickstart into trying to get healthy again," Sandefur said.
Sandefur says she hopes Michelle Obama gets the book, which she has already sold around 150 copies.
She has a book signing this Saturday at the Hire Grounds Café on Eisenhower Parkway.
