Macon man run over and killed; girlfriend charged | News
The Bibb County Sheriff's office says a woman ran over and killed her boyfriend with her SUV after an argument.
Deputies were called around 10:30 p.m. Friday after someone heard screams for help near the post office at 1040 Pio Nono Avenue, according to a press release.
They found 24-year-old Martegus Jamell Johnson, of Macon. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police spoke with Johnson's girlfriend Tasha Yolanda Phillips when they arrived. She told deputies that she had been trying to buy drugs when she was attacked by two men. She said Johnson tried to stop them when he was also attacked. When the attackers were leaving, Phillips said, they ran over Johnson in their silver Chevy Trailblazer.
As police questioned witnesses, they learned that Johnson and Phillips had gotten into an argument. Investigators say Phillips hit Johnson with her 2004 Ford Explorer.
Phillips has been charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and tampering with evidence.
