Longtime Vineville Academy principal dies Sunday

When Paulette Winters started teaching in Bibb County in 1976, some of the teachers who worked under her this year were not even born yet.

The Bibb School district confirms Winters died Sunday.

She served as principal of Vineville Academy, Bibb County's fine arts elementary school, for 12 years.

Before that she was Assistant Principal at Morgan Elementary, and taught several grades at Weir Elementary.

Winters retired from Vineville Academy in November 2013.

Bibb County's Interim Superintendent Dr. Steve Smith issued the following statement:

"It is with deep sadness that I inform you that Paulette Winters died late yesterday afternoon. We grieve as we have lost a friend, a colleague and a wonderful administrator. Paulette's dedication and commitment was a true testament to her love of Vineville Academy. Our hearts go out to her family and especially her Vineville Academy family. At this time, we do not have any information regarding service arrangements. I will let you know as soon as we receive information."
