Central High unveils Otis Redding mural | News
After weeks of priming and painting by Central High ninth graders a painting honoring a Macon music legend is on display.
The school unveiled a 54-panel mural in Otis Redding's likeness.
The ceiling mural of Redding joined three other murals in the school's front entryway: Michael Jackson, The Girl with the Pearl Earring, and American Gothic.
We caught up with Karla Redding-Andrews, Redding's daughter, who now runs a scholarship program in her father's honor.
She says she was equally impressed with the students' rendition of her father's songs and the mural dedicated to him.
"The work that the kids put into making the mural is beautiful as it is is just really breathtaking. Hopefully we will get a lot of visitors just to come by and see it because it is definitely something to see," Redding-Andrews said.
Art instructor Mike Gillies says the mural took about a month to complete and that his class is planning more murals of famous artists to fill in the remaining spaces.
