Chairman: Three Mount de Sales trustees have quit | News
Three trustees at Macon's Mount de Sales Academy resigned after the school let its band director go.
That's according to Charles E. Jones, chairman of the school's board of trustees.
He said trustees Joe Claxton, Kay Gerhardt, and Vickie Hertwig resigned in protest last week after school officials told Flint Dollar he won't be rehired for next year.
Their names were removed from the list of 18 trustees on the school's website since last week.
Contacted Thursday afternoon, Claxton confirmed that he'd resigned, but declined further comment. Hertwig has not returned our phone calls.
Dollar told us he wasn't invited back after announcing on Facebook he was marrying his same-sex partner of six years.
Jones would not discuss the resignations further.
He reiterated a statement issued by the trustees last week that said Dollar had to go because he was violating the school's Catholic teachings.
He says he expects the band director's job to be filled before school reopens in August.
