Plans for Roundabout at Fulton Mill Rd and Eisenhower Intersection | News
The intersection at Fulton Mill Road and Eisenhower should soon be a little safer.
The Macon-Bibb County Commission sent a letter to the Department of Transportation, requesting a roundabout at the intersection.
The area is known for having accidents, because of the divided lanes of traffic.
Traffic lights will be installed at the intersection for a temporary fix.
Former Commissioner, Joe Allen, says back in December there was an agreement to place traffic lights there permanently.
He says a roundabout should be used only in slow traffic areas.
"Locations where traffic is not doing an excess of 50 miles an hour, but traffic is almost at a slow snails pace. In the downtown area would be good, but not out here on a mainstream highway thats almost like an interstate," says Allan.
Construction for the roundabout will not start for at least two years.
Plans for the traffic light have been approved on the district level, but are still pending at the state level.
