Three Bibb commision members criticize budget
News

Three Bibb County commission members held a news conference Monday to criticize the budget.

The full commission is scheduled to vote Tuesday on the 2015 budget that includes cuts for Macon transit buses and transportation for the handicapped and for indigent care at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.

Mayor pro-tem Bert Bivins and commissioners Elaine Lucas and Virgil Watkins said the commission needs to work further on Mayor Robert Reichert's budget.

"It is not a good budget for poor people. It is not a good budget for the disabled," Lucas says. "We're balancing this budget on backs of people who are least able to afford it."

Lucas wants the half million returned to indigent care at the Medical Center.

Watkins said the current budget puts fiscal concerns as a higher priority than the human condition.

"This budget makes it clear that (community) is not a goal of this administration," says Bivins. "We've brought up our concerns before, but we've basically been ignored."
