Macon man shot in back during alleged car theft attempt | News
An 18 year-old man was shot in the back early Tuesday morning on Brownell Drive.
An unknown person drove Jarvis Brooks to the Medical Center of Central Georgia and when he was released, Bibb County deputies questioned him about the incident.
Investigators also questioned Jashayla Finney, 17, also from Macon, according to a Bibb County Sheriff's Office news release.
Investigators discovered that Brooks and Finney were involved in the theft of a Honda Accord from the 100 block of Stevens Drive early Tuesday morning, according to the news release.
The pair ended up at an address on Brownell Drive where they attempted to take another vehicle, the release states. It was reported that the owner of the residence on Brownell Drive heard noises outside his residence and exited his home armed with a pistol yelling at the suspects he saw in his yard.
The homeowner heard a loud bang like a firecracker and saw a flash of light, the news release states. He returned fire and the suspects fled with the first stolen Honda.
Brooks went home and his mother transported him to the Medical Center of Central Georgia, the news release states.
Brooks is charged with theft by taking (felony) and criminal attempt to commit a felony. His bond is set at $8,100.00. Finney is charged with theft by taking (felony) and criminal attempt to commit a felony. Her bond is set at $11,100.00.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and more arrests could be made, according to the news release.
