Zebulon Rd. shopping center dispute continues
News

In Macon, lawyers on both sides of the Zebulon Road dispute met Monday's deadline to submit revised briefs to Superior Court Judge Kelly Ennis.

The revised briefs come after Ennis made no decision in a hearing two weeks ago.

Blackwater Resources, an Alabama-based developer, wants to build a 250-thousand square foot shopping center on Zebulon Road next to Northway Church.

Many neighbors say they don't want that kind of development backing up to their properties. They say increased traffic, noise and crime will drop their property values.

Herman Dorr says he doesn't want a new shopping center right across the street from his home, "If I was looking for a house and one came vacant right across the street from a shopping center, to where you look out your front door and see it, I don't think I'd want to buy it. We would be hard-pressed to sell."

Dorr says decades ago the Planning and Zoning board originally recommended no further commercial development beyond Northway Church and Sonny Carter Elementary.

No final hearing has been scheduled yet.
