Autopsy completed on west Bibb teen accident victim

The driver in a fatal accident last week was driving 20 to 25 miles over the speed limit, according to an incident report from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

Driver Grant Hoffman told investigators he was going about 65 to 70 MPH, when he tried to negotiate a curve to the right. The vehicle started to fishtail and it felt like the front of his vehicle locked up.

The accident happened last Wednesday, just before midnight, on Zebulon Road west of I-475. Hoffman's passenger, Abigail Hinson, 17, died the day after the wreck.

Bibb County investigators are continuing to investigate the fatal rollover accident.

The posted speed limit in the area is 45 m.p.h., according to the incident report.

Under contributing factors, the report lists, "Exceeding Speed Limit, Driver Lost Control, Too Fast for Conditions."

Lt. Sean DeFoe of the Bibb County Sheriff's Office said no charges have been filed in last Thursday's death of Abigail Hinson, and he could not say when the investigation might be complete.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said medical examiners on Monday founded that Hinson died of multiple head injuries, caused by the accident. District Attorney David Cooke said he requested the autopsy.

The sheriff's department says Grant Hoffman, 18, lost control of his car, crossed over the road and struck several trees.

Cooke and DeFoe have declined to comment on what may have caused the wreck.

Anyone with information on the case can call the Bibb County Sheriff's Office at 478-751-7500.

Memorial services for Abby Hinson will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Christ Church on Walnut Street, Macon . Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Tattnall Square Academy.
