Playground and garden coming to Ingram-Pye elementary | News
Students at Ingram-Pye Elementary in Macon will soon have a new place to play and grow vegetables.
The groundbreaking for the playground and garden happened Wednesday morning.
Community leaders, Ingram-Pye's principal, and some students took part.
According to a news release, Perdue Farms and the Macon-Bibb Government sponsored the garden project, while GE Capital sponsored the playground, totaling to about $35,000.
Principal Quintin Green says the project is a great opportunity for his students.
"We have about 20 to 25 minutes for recess for all of our students, and that will be a wonderful reward for them. After working hard during the school day, we give them some time to come out and play," Green said, "Play is important for young people."
Leadership Macon, Lowes, and Macon Roots partnered together to supply materials.
Green says the playground should be ready within the next three months.
