Former Dublin VA nurse sentenced in worker's comp fraud | News
A former nurse at the Dublin VA hospital was sentenced to 5 years in prison for defrauding the Department of Veterans Affairs through fraudulent worker's compensation claims.
Federal prosecutors say 41-year-old Loretta Smith, of Glenwood, submitted fake worker's compensation claims to the Department of Labor from 2009 through 2013. She received more than $450,000 in federal money for claimed expenses for trips she did not make, and medical treatments she did not receive.
After Smith is released from prison, she will serve 3 years of supervised release.
Smith is also expected to repay a $454,000 forfeiture judgment, and pay the same amount in restitution.
