Bibb School Board Approves Sexual-Assault Settlement
News

The Bibb County School board voted to approve a settlement involving the case of an alleged sexual assault of a student at Northeast High School.

Board members voted unanimously to approve the settlement, but would not discuss the deals of the agreement.

Last year, Ikeia Phillips pleaded guilty in Bibb County court to aggravated assault with intent to commit rape in May 2008.

Prosecutors said the assault happened at a computer lab at Northeast.

They said the victim, who was 16 years old at the time, went the lab where Phillips allegedly grabbed her, pulled her aside and had sexual relations with her.

Last year, the victim's father filed a federal lawsuit on her behalf.

The suit says the victim is mentally handicapped and was a special-education student.

It also says that Ikeia Phillips "had a history of sexually abusing and molesting underage females." The suit says the school district "knew or should have known" about his history, and failed to protect female students.

The federal lawsuit also claims that school officials did not notify the victim's parents of the assault.

A family member of the victim told 13WMAZ's Amy Aubert that the victim's father met with their lawyer before Thursday's meeting.
