Council Nominates Ellis, David Lucas, Holliday to SPLOST Panel | News

Macon City Council voted to nominate former state Rep. David Lucas, former mayor C. Jack Ellis and community activist Lindsay Holliday to the committee that will oversee spending from revenue raised by the new SPLOST.
Bibb County voters approved the extra one-percent special-purpose sales tax last month.
Macon City Council Clerk Joyce Humphreys relayed word of the city nominees for the Macon-Bibb SPLOST Oversight Committee.
Bibb County Commission Chairman Sam Hart proposed the concept of an oversight committee during the campaign to get voters to approve the SPLOST.
But Hart says their service is purely "advisory," and they won't have the ability to access the SPLOST money.
Mayor Robert Reichert asked the council to propose the city's representatives on the panel. The committee is to be made up of three members nominated by the county and three from the city.
Reichert says the committee is responsible for overseeing the expenditure of the funds and timely completion of the projects.
Lucas recently lost his race for the state Senate seat held by Robert Brown to Miriam Paris.
Ellis, a two-term mayor of Macon, is now a private consultant.
Holliday is a dentist. He's been vocal in efforts to stop the widening of Forest Hill Road. He also ran unsuccessfully for the Bibb County Board of Commissioners.
