Georgia State Fair Plans Comeback in April | News
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
The Georgia State Fair's new owners say the century-old fair will be back this spring.
On Facebook, they've posted dates for a 10-day fair -- April 27 to May 6.
An employee at Universal Fairs in Memphis, Tenn. confirmed those dates.
Last year, the Macon Exchange Club, the fair's longtime sponsors, agreed to sell the financially troubled fair.
The new owners, Universal Fairs, specialize in buying troubled fairs and turning them around.
The state fair was traditionally held each fall in Macon's Central City Park until 2008. No fair was held the next year, and the annual celebration returned in the spring of 2010, to avoid competition from the Georgia National Fair, held each October in Perry.
But the Macon fair was plagued by low attendance for the past two years.
Before the sale, the Exchange Club voted to cancel the 2012 fair.
But last year, Universal Fairs spokesman Mark Lovell promised "more rides, bigger rides, better entertainment, more free attractions" for Macon in 2012.
Lovell could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
