Five Convicted in Drug Bust; At Least Four from Central Ga. | News
U.S. Attorney Michael Moore said Friday's conviction of five drug dealers will help shut down a drug pipeline from Mexico to Central Georgia.
Moore held a news conference with other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. He said the five were convicted of cocaine trafficking charges in the United States District Court in Macon. Two are from Bibb County and at least two others are from Baldwin County.
Moore said the year long case started when authorities began investigating a Milledgeville area drug dealer, that investigation led them to an Atlanta area dealer who was moving about 1,000 kilograms of cocaine a year.
Moore said the Atlanta dealer was getting his drugs directly from a Mexican drug cartel. He said it could take several months for sentencing.
Moore said this efforts come from many agencies working together.
