'42' Filming Under Way in Central Ga.
News

Central Georgia filming for the Harrison Ford film "42" is now under way.

Crews set up this morning at a site near 3484 Upper River Road in Jones County. Film crews covered part of the street so it looked like a dirt road.

After 9 a.m. today, buses transported crew and cast to the Jones County site near the Walnut Creek Shooting Preserve. Crews were stationed on a dirt road there, around an building set up like a 1940s-era gas station.

Northeast High 'staging area'

Signs marked "Ebbets" directed people to Northeast High School in east Macon, where baseball players unloaded gear and caterers cooked food this morning. A Bibb County campus police officer said it was the staging site for filming that will start today.

Caterers today told us they got the call overnight to report at 2 a.m. This morning, they were cooking up chicken with Mexican seasoning, whitefish, rice and mixed vegetables.

They said they expected both cast and crew for lunch.

More preparations under way

Meanwhile, more crews got Macon's historic Luther Williams Field ready for shooting and dozens of 1940s-vintage vehicles stood ready for shooting. They included one bus marked "Brooklyn Dodgers Baseball Club" and others marked "Daytona City Transport."

Set crews also continued to prep Macon's historic Terminal Station train depot and a home at the corner of High and Orange Streets for filming.

Baseball legend

The movie, starring Ford, Christopher Meloni, Chadwick Boseman and others, tells the story of how Jackie Robinson broke baseball's color barrier in 1947.

Some of the Macon sites, including Luther Williams, are standing in for Daytona Beach, Florida, where the Dodgers trained.

On to Luther Williams

Unit publicist Ernie Malik said Tuesday afternoon that he expects filming will move on to Luther Williams Field Friday morning.

Malik says about 300 cast and crew members are in Macon and shooting will last for about two weeks. He said it's too soon to say how much they'll spend in Central Georgia.

He also declined to say how much time Ford and other stars will spend in town.
