Shawn Fritz to Withdraw from Bibb Sheriff's Race | News
Barring a successful write-in candidate, Chief Deputy David Davis will become Bibb County's next sheriff.
Republican Shawn Fritz has withdrawn from the race, citing health concerns and an increased workload at his job.
That's according to Bibb County GOP Chair Suzanne Wood.
According to a news release from the party, Fritz made the following statement: "Sometimes life gets in the way of your plans," he said. "With Consolidation on the horizon, I certainly plan on a return to politics in the future. My personal desire to serve my community is still strong."
Fritz told 13WMAZ's Randall Savage that he plans to pull out by the end of this week, due to health issues and other concerns.
Wood thanked Fritz for his willingness to serve. "We wish him nothing but success and believe he will be a formidable candidate in the future," she said. "I wish Sheriff-elect David Davis luck in his transition and know he will serve all the people of Bibb County well."
Fritz's withdrawal means that Davis will be unopposed on the November general election ballot.
