Nick Malloy Comes Home | News
Macon's Nick Malloy came home today, nearly six months after a serious auto accident.
Nick is a rising country singer and the son of 13WMAZ's Frank Malloy.
In March, he was seriously injured in an early morning accident on Interstate 75 near Bass Road. His car overturned and Nick spent several hours by the side of the road before the accident was discovered. The Bibb County sheriff's office says he probably fell asleep.
He's spent the past few months at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, which treats spinal injuries.
The Malloys report that Nick faces a long recovery, but he's shown steady progress since heading to Atlanta.
Nick says, "I'm proud of myself for how far I've come, and I'm just lucky to be alive."
But today, he returned to the family's north Macon home -- hopefully for a long stay.
"It feels good to be back home," says Nick. "It's been a long, hard ride. I've definitely got my ways to go, but it's definitely given me a new perspective on life."
It's not his first trip back to Macon.
In June, friends held a benefit concert at the Cox Capitol Theatre, and Nick rolled on stage to strum a few notes.
He says, "The support in this town has been awesome. It's really been awesome."
Nick says he's thankful for all of that support, and now he plans to continue his career on the big stage.
