Macon Hosts Summer Boxing Show | News
The Middle Georgia Boxing Club hosted a Summer Boxing Show at the Bishop Ray Boxing Arena in Macon on Saturday. Twenty-two boxers ranging in age and weight class stepped into the ring to practice their skills.
There were eleven different bouts throughout the one-day tournament, but the event gave fighters an opportunity to get more experience besides just working in the gym.
"When you're training in the gym, that's one thing," said official John Paul Jones, Jr.. "When you're in front of a crowd and you're boxing against somebody that's not in your club is excellent experience."
For the fighters, their sport is not just throwing punches.
"After you fight there's friendship and good sportsmanship and just meeting new people," explained Open 201 pound boxer Vaughn Williams. "It helps you think smarter, it helps you in all areas of your life."
