New Course Record Set at Brickyard Collegiate | News
MACON, Ga.-- Sunday was the final round of the sixth annual Brickyard Collegiate Championship and Georgia went home with the title.
The Bulldogs started the day on top and had no problems keeping their lead. UGA beat the field by 14 strokes and took home the individual title.
Sophomore Sam Straka played the tournmanet as an individual, but had a record-breaking final round to share a portion of the championship.
Straka recorded an eagle and nine birdies, including a birdie on the final hole to set a new course record. He finished the day at 8 under 64 and tied Georgia State's Jonathan Grey for the title.
"It's the most fun I've had on a golf course in a long time," said Straka. "I hit good off the tee. My irons were really dialed in. I made pretty much every putt I needed to make and it was a great round."
Mercer hosted the tournament and finished the day with a score of 286. The Bears posted their highest finish at sixth place in the history of the Brickyard Collegiate.
