Macon Cop's Loaded Gun Stolen in Car Break-In | News
A Macon police officer came back from his part-time job Saturday to find his undercover car broken into and his handgun stolen.
Sgt. Cedric Penson told officers he had moved the undercover car from the rear to the front of his house because of renovations he was making.
Upon his return home, he discovered the driver side window was smashed and his CD player was stolen. So was his personal handgun, a loaded SIG Sauer 9MM pistol that was stashed under the front seat.
Captain Jimmy Barbee, director of Internal Affairs, said no report was filed with his department and that Penson was not in violation of department policy.
"You're allowed to have a backup weapon," Barbee said. "If he had an AR-15 or a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, then he might be in trouble."
Police spokeswoman Melanie Hofmann told 13WMAZ that the department is investigating it as they would any other car break-in.
