Rutland Softball Knocks Out Burke Co. in Playoffs Round One | News
The Rutland Lady Hurricanes stomped Burke County in the first round of the GHSA softball playoffs Wednesday.
Junior Pitcher Anna Carithers took out three batters at the top of the first inning.
In the bottom of the first, Brittany Stroud sent one out to outfield to bring in teammates Brittany Davis and her own twin Brook Stroud to give Rutland a 2-0 lead.
Up next was Miranda Rousey who hit also drove one to the outfield and in came Stroud and Janna Jordan to make the score 4-0.
Still in the first inning, Carithers pops one up and the outfielder misses the catch, giving Kierra Golphin and Marlyn Molton time to cross home plate.
Back through the batting order., Rousey swings drops the ball just inside the fence. Once again, she brings in Stroud and Jordan.
The game ended after three innings with a 16-0 victory for Rutland. They brought in 16 more runs in game two of the double-header and allowed Burke County to get on the board with one run.
In AAAAA play, Jones County took out Glynn Academy 7-2 then 1-0. The Lady Bears of Houston County lost 2-8 against Ware County, but they came back for a win in game two, 8-3.
Veterans was knocked out of the AAAA bracket after they fell to Wayne County 0-5 and 3-6. Perry is also out of the championship run. They lost to South Effingham 2-3 and 0-8.
Dodge County is moving on in AAA play. They beat Henry County 20-1 and 15-0.
In AA, Crawford County sailed through round one over Berrien 12-4 and 11-6. Bleckley County beat out Thomasville 7-0 and 22-7.
Round two starts October 17th.
