Creek Search Connected to Murder Case

Macon police say today's search of a creek in south Bibb County is connected to last week's murder of a Macon woman.

Today, police and fire investigators are searching around Echeconnee Creek and beneath a bridge near the Bibb-Houston county line.

Police spokeswoman Melanie Hofmann says it's connected to the investigation of the murder of 58-year-old Gail Spencer. She would not comment further except to say that the search came about as a result of information that came up during that investigation.

Brittiny Barber is on the scene and spoke with officials but none would comment on what they were looking for or what the search is in connection with.

Echeconnee Creek is near the border of Bibb County and Houston County. Highway 247 crosses the creek in south Bibb County just before Elberta Road and Robins Air Force Base.
