Thanksgiving: Where to Eat or Serve

If you're in need and want to know where to find a hot Thanksgiving Day meal, or you want to serve others, here are some opportunities in Central Georgia.

--The Light of the World Church at 1240 Bailey Avenue in Macon.
They'll be serving a turkey dinner from 11 to 2 on Thanksgiving.

--At Macon Rescue Mission, you can dine starting at 11:30 a.m. They'll also be giving away clothes. They're located at 774 Hazel Street in Macon.

--The Salvation Army at 1955 Broadway in Macon will be serving meals from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The community is welcome and volunteers are always needed. Call 478-746-8572, Extension 100 for more information.

--Kelvin Jones, Pastor at the "In Spirit and In Truth Church of God" in Macon says they will serve meals starting at 11 a.m. They're at 5609 Bloomfield Road. Jones says they have plenty of volunteers, they just need guests. Call 478-297-2019 for more information.

--In Forsyth, The United Methodist Church will prepare meals for delivery. You can still drop off food until early Thanksgiving morning.

--Houston County jailers, through the Arresting Hunger charity, will be delivering meals to more than 60 families. Sergeant Gary Turley says he may still need some drivers. Call 478-808-2585 to volunteer.

--George Gibson, a deacon with the Greater Corinth Baptist Church in Macon, says several churches, community groups and fraternities will come together to serve meals at Fifth Street and Walnut Street. That's in downtown Macon in the parking lot of the Tubman Museum. Service starts at noon and lasts until around 2 p.m. Volunteers are welcome. Call 478-745-6657 for more information.
