Macon Rescue Mission Prepares for Thanksgiving Feast | News
Macon Rescue Mission will serve hundreds of families and individuals in need Thursday morning for Thanksgiving. But on Wednesday, volunteers and staff alike prepped for the big dinner that was several weeks in the making.
Troy Johnson is in charge of some of the cooking for the big meal. He said that they have been cooking and getting dishes ready since Monday. It is his first time having such a big role in the Rescue Mission's big dinner.
"A lot of work is basically what I expected that's basically what I expected and that's what it's turned out to be," said Johnson.
He said they have to not only cook the food, but with some of the dishes like turkey and cranberry sauce, they have to make sure they are pre-prepared in individual sizes.
While this dinner is a big event to prepare for, for volunteers and staff at the Macon Rescue Mission, it's all worth it.
"But seeing the people's faces when they get meal and seeing the volunteers that get so enthusiastic about being able to serve those that aren't in their normal world so to speak," said Jeffrey Nicklas, Sr., the Executive Director of the Macon Rescue Mission.
