Investigators Searching for Missing Bibb County Man | News
Houston County investigator Sergeant Joe Middlebrooks says several Central Georgia law enforcement agencies are searching for a missing Bibb County man.
Middlebrooks says 51-year-old James "Jimmy" Johnson was reported missing to the Houston County Sheriff's Office Aug. 13, 2011. Johnson lived in Bibb County, but his mother lives in Houston County. She filed the missing persons report.
Johnson used to live with his mother, Daphine Blankenship in her home in Kathleen, but moved out after an argument over the choices he was making. "The last time that he left, it was just an all out argument. I just told him that I couldn't live like that," Blankenship says.
She says she was worried that her son may have been involved in drugs and other illegal activity at the time of his disappearance, and that's why she believes her son to be dead.
But Sgt. Middlebrooks says the case is still considered an active missing persons case, meaning he is presumed alive until evidence comes up suggesting otherwise.
He says the investigation by Houston County, the GBI, Peach and Bibb Counties has not turned up any answers as to what happened to Johnson. He says there's been "no trace" of him since August 2011.
So far, investigators have interviewed at least 40 people, trying to get leads on the case. So far, those efforts have not been successful, but Middlebrooks believes "someone out there knows something."
Middlebrooks says they are working the case, but would not speculate on what happened or if there was foul play involved.
Kim Tindall of Warner Robins says she's pushed law enforcement for more than a year to investigate the case.
She says: "If we let sleeping dogs lie, the dogs ain't never gonna wake up."
For Blankenship, it's not knowing what happened to her son that bothers her the most. "There are so many people out there that don't know what happened to their children, and I don't think people realize how many times I go to sleep crying and then wake up crying."
Anyone with information on James "Jimmy" Johnson is asked to call Sgt. Joe Middlebrooks at (478) 542-2085 or Investigator Ben Collins with the GBI at (478) 987-4545.
