On 12/12, 12 days to Collect 100 Bikes For Christmas | News
When Macon events promoter Larry Guyton decided to give back this year, his attitude was go big, or go home.
"We're trying to get 100 bikes by Christmas Eve to give out to families," he said.
Guyton shelled out $466 for the first 8 bikes Wednesday, which leaves 12 days to hit the 100-bike goal.
"The challenge is going to be getting more people to chip in and help out," said Guyton.
It's the first time he's taken on such a project, so he teamed up with community activist Danny Glover.
"My reaction was, 'let's do it'," said Glover. "We have a great community of people who don't have a problem with giving back to those who are less fortunate."
He says the drive is about making the holidays more special for families who otherwise couldn't afford it, but it also serves a more practical purpose.
"I want to get our younger generation exercising and wanting to ride bikes," Glover said.
Guyton says they're also accepting toys, but the main goal is to have 100 bikes. They will be given away at a special party for kids at the Olympia Skate Center December 24. Until then, bikes and toys are being collected at the following locations:
- Moe's Hut at the Macon Indoor Flea Market at 3640 Eisenhower Parkway
- Habersham Record Store at 1477 Pio Nono Avenue
- Lokey Tattoo at 1225 Gray Highway.
